What To Wear: Winter Break

December 15, 2009

With Christmas right around the corner, there are tons of events coming up that are the perfect opportunity to pull your best clothes out of the closet. However, different events call for different outfits: You don’t want to go to a party looking like Lady Gaga only to find out its much more of an Anne Hathaway-esque event.  Here are some of the events I’ll be attending, and some ideas on what I’ll be wearing — or wish I could be wearing.

Christmas Shopping

Sure, Christmas shopping isn’t actually an event, but studies have shown that well-dressed shoppers get better service.  So why not have a go-to shopping outfit that’s comfy and stylish? I always go with a thermal for shopping, and make my outfit fun by adding a colorful scarf or hat and shoes that can handle some serious walking.

Christmas Dinner With His Parents

You want something less flashy than you normally wear, but still stylish. A dress and flats are a perfect combo.  Although, if the dress is strapless or sleeveless, I would top it with a cardigan. It just depends on how dressy the dinner is.  Metallic accessories make the outfit more festive. Think more sweet than sexy.

Girl’s Night Gift Exchange

For a gift exchange with your girlfriends, you need something fun and trendy.  Go for sparkly, girly, fun.  I like dressy basics with trendy accessories, like over the top headbands and huge rings.

Formal Ball

In my case, this means a Yule Ball (yes, as in Hogwarts Yule Ball–I’m a nerd, what can I say), but this outfit would work for any formal event.  The red lipstick is a must.
